I had the pleasure of spending my Sunday afternoon on the couch this past weekend watching not 1 but 2 superior automotive sporting events (courtesy of Penny, my loving wife who kept the kids happy while I let the day drift by). The
Formula 1 German Grand Prix in Hockenheim & the
American LeMans Series at Mid-Ohio. Those of you who know me understand that I'm not a sports person by nature - but I can really sink my teeth into these kinds of events.
There are seemingly endless & complex layers of competition in each of these types of racing.
In F1 there are fans with competing loyalties to drivers from their home country and manufacturers competing for the constructor's championship. Then there are the tire manufacturers battling to create the winning compound and racing teams competing against each other all while pulling together the above mentioned components to create the perfect, and hopefully winning, recipe for speed.

Most interestingly, you'll find multiple car classes racing on the track simultaneously. ALMS and LeMans also have a focus on endurance racing with the 24 Hours of Le Mans
(24 Hueres du Mans) at Le Mans, Sarthe, France.

For both F1 and ALMS, you'll find auto & tire manufactures using race events as a lab to prove the superiority of their technology and eventually move that tech into their street cars. I'm a beneficiary of Honda of racing every time I fire up my Honda i-VTEC engine in my Odyssey Minivan.
So my point is, if you like events with various layers of competition with results that trickle down to real world experiences - or you just like speed and cool cars, you'll like F1 & ALMS racing.
